Innovation Balcony Pull Tester

Balcony Pull Tester

At PHL our in-house engineers have crafted a hydraulic balcony pull tester. This is a device used to assess the structural integrity and safety of balcony railings or guardrails. Balcony railings are essential for ensuring the safety of individuals using a balcony, and it’s crucial that they can withstand certain loads and forces to prevent accidents or collapses.

A balcony pull tester that uses hydraulics operates on the same principle as other pull testers but employs hydraulic systems to apply and measure the force. Here’s a basic overview of how a hydraulic balcony pull tester works:

  1. Hydraulic System: The core component of this tester is a hydraulic system. It consists of a hydraulic pump, hoses, cylinders, and a Gauge.
  2. Attachment to Railing: The hydraulic pull tester is attached to the balcony railing or guardrail in a manner that allows it to apply a horizontal or lateral force to the railing.
  3. Force Application: When the tester is activated, the hydraulic pump pressurizes the fluid and pushes it through the hoses into the hydraulic cylinder. In this case, it applies a pulling force to the railing.
  4. Force Measurement: As the hydraulic cylinder applies a pulling force to the railing, a pressure gauge measures the force being exerted. This force is displayed on a control unit or gauge.
  5. Control and Data Recording: The operator typically controls the force application using the hand pump, which allows them to gradually increase the force. Data on the applied force is recorded for analysis and final report.
  6. Safety Standards and Pass/Fail Criteria: The applied force is adjusted in accordance with safety standards specific to balcony railings. If the railing can withstand the force without failure, it meets the safety requirements. Otherwise, it fails the test, and further action is required.

Advantages of using hydraulic systems for balcony pull testing include precision in force control and measurement, the ability to apply high forces if necessary, and the capability to conduct tests in a controlled and repeatable manner.
